President Thornburg's Reflection
I decided to take the dog for an early morning walk along the ocean. It was one of the last days of summer and I thought it would be nice to see a sunrise over the ocean before school began.

It was a dark, gray morning with some clouds overhead. Truthfully, it didn’t seem like a good morning to watch the sun come up.  The dog questioned why we stopped walking and were staring out at the ocean. I began to wonder myself looking at the dark sky above.

A hint of orange appeared on the horizon.  It became brighter and then a sliver of golden, yellow orange appeared. I was transfixed as the sun continued to rise, casting its morning light across the ocean.  It was well worth rising early that day.

As I turned to continue the walk, I noticed the clouds overhead. Where they had once been dark, gray and foreboding, were now brightly lit with red and orange hues. They were breathtaking. Each cloud had its own unique, distinct pattern as the rays from the sun danced across them.

The reflection of the sun on the clouds caused me to reflect on how we reflect the love of Christ. He is the Son, brightly shining within us, and where once was darkness, we reflect His glory.  He has enabled us to witness to others His love and His grace.

I have invited our faculty and staff to share their reflections in the upcoming President’s Updates. Just as the sun reflects on the clouds, our faculty and staff reflect God’s goodness each day  I look forward to reading in future updates their stories, recollections, and reflections. I want to thank them ahead of time for their willingness to share with our MC Community.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:16
