Two Big Wins for MC

Two Big Wins for MC
by John Thornburg

I had the opportunity to attend our girls’ first home soccer game this past week. They played a competitive and spirited game against the other team and it was fun to watch. We scored first, and although the other team valiantly tried to overcome us, our girls rose to the occasion and played strong to the end taking away a start of the season victory. I was proud of their efforts.

There was something else that made me as equally proud. About halfway through the first half a large group of boys arrived and joined the good-sized group already in the stands. Once seated, this group of boys began to cheer and encourage our girls with a great deal of enthusiasm. Their actions were contagious and soon all of us were cheering more heartily and the game took on a new level of excitement. I think their actions not only had an impact on those of us in the stands, but the girls on the field as well. I was impressed and thankful these boys joined us.

It turns out these young men were from our boys’ soccer team. They had finished their practice and decided to cheer on the young women of our girls’ soccer team. Their actions demonstrate our theme for this school year in action – United in Spirit – Intent on One Purpose. Our theme calls us to think of others and take steps to encourage unity and stronger relationships. The boys’ soccer team did just that and served as excellent role models for the rest of us. We had two wins this past week at the girls’ soccer game – one on the field and the other in the stands.

My prayer is that we will continue in the example set this past week of the difference we can all make together as a school community.

Thank you for your support.
