Malden, MA (June 22, 2021) – Malden Catholic Class of 2024 and Malden resident, Jordyn Meehan, has been selected as one of ten young women nationwide to participate in the Hafize Gaye Erkan First Republic Fellowship ProgramSM. This program is sponsored through the National Coalition of Girls Schools and provides a $5,000 grant per year each year of high school to be used for STEM educational services and programs. As an Erkan FellowSM, Meehan will also participate in a mentorship program that includes academic counselors, business professionals and executive leaders.
The Hafize Gaye Erkan First Republic Fellowship ProgramSM fosters STEM education, leadership, and career paths for young women from underserved backgrounds. The Fellowship is designed to develop young women into lifelong learners and transformational leaders of character. Students who receive the Erkan FellowshipSM have demonstrated strong academic achievement, an interest in STEM disciplines, leadership promise, community service and desire for enrichment experiences and lifelong learning.
Jordyn Meehan was nominated by her teacher and sponsor, Mrs. Lauren Dupont, who has taught Biology and Physics at Malden Catholic over the past several years. According to Mrs. Dupont, “Jordyn is an outstanding student who has an innate talent for exploring science and technology. I believe that she will contribute greatly to the first Erkan FellowshipSM class.”
Rose Maria Redman, Principal of Malden Catholic added, “We are very proud of Jordyn’s accomplishment. As one of only ten inaugural Fellowship students from across the nation, she exemplifies the type of students who attend Malden Catholic… young adults who have the curiosity to fully explore academic topics of interest, the leadership to establish foundational programs that will benefit others and the desire to give back to the community.”
