Dear Malden Catholic Families,
I am very thankful for Mr. O’Donnell’s comments and his ongoing support of Malden Catholic. Joe is a 1962 alumnus of Malden Catholic and an Everett native. Joe graduated from Harvard College in 1967 and the Harvard Business School in 1971 serving as a member of the Harvard Corporation and the Board of Overseers as well as co-chairing the Harvard Campaign that would become the largest capital campaign in the history of American higher education. For over three decades, Joe and his wife Kathy have dedicated their philanthropic efforts to cystic fibrosis research, establishing the Joey Fund in 1986 after losing their own son, Joey, to the disease. Recently, Joe was named a recipient of the Harvard Medal for extraordinary service to the University.
Joe credits Malden Catholic with setting the foundation for his success. Throughout his distinguished and successful career, Joe has supported Malden Catholic at the highest level and has exhibited great care for his beloved school. With a vision set on the future, Joe founded the Saint Francis Xavier Society in 1994 to ensure that resources were available to meet the rising demand for the school. The Society was the first of its kind in the school’s history providing critical scholarship and program support. With just four members in 1994, the Saint Francis Xavier Society has grown to close to 150 members helping to raise over $700,000 annually.
In 2012 with his forward vision and with deep commitment, Joe served as co-chair of the first campaign in Malden Catholic’s history providing the lead gift of $5 million. Surpassing the original goal of $15 million within 5 years, the Campaign realized $25 million for infrastructure and major school upgrades greatly strengthening the school’s long-term sustainability.
Joe’s financial investment as well as the dedication of his time and professional expertise helped to set the stage for the creation of the girl’s division. He played a key role in developing the professional networks to support our students’ educational experience. Joe’s leadership and dedication have opened the door to Malden Catholic’s future and ensures the mission of the Xaverian Brothers will live on in Malden and throughout Greater Boston for years to come.
Thank you, Joe, for all you have done for us!
