On June 10th 2024 Malden Catholic High School hosted the first Be the C.A.U.S.E. Training! This collaboration was created because Erga Pierrette, Dean of Community Culture and Equity, was an invited guest during the spring, to participate in this training at Central Catholic High School, in Lawrence, Ma. She said, “I knew that I wanted our MC student leaders to have the opportunity to engage with this invaluable experience and become trained facilitators for our MC school community at large.
The program was created by Central Catholic alum Mr. Peter Rojas '04, who is the Director of the Intercultural Center at Brandeis University, and Mrs. Aliali Silverio Belkus '97, Central Catholic’s Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Be the C.A.U.S.E. (Catalyst for Advocacy and Unified Student Empowerment) aims to bring diversity awareness training to high school students. The program began with Diversity Awareness Training that includes the fundamentals of communication, intersectionality, microaggression, implicit biases, power and privilege, allyship, activism, and advocacy.
We are looking forward to hosting the Train the Trainer Series at Malden Catholic for our first Be the C.A.U.S.E. cohort in early fall of 2024!
Students will receive a certificate of completion after successfully completing each training.
We are looking to train 30 students from across all four grade levels! Ultimately, the goal is to make MC feel like home to all Lancers! Malden Catholic nurtures enduring personal relationships and life-long learning.
Be the Cause was an inspiring day filled with empowerment and learning. The program equipped MC students with the proper knowledge and training to build an understanding and inclusive community here at Malden Catholic.
