October '25 Plus Ultra Award Winners

October Winners- PLUS ULTRA AWARDS

Each month, faculty and staff are asked to nominate students, faculty, or staff who they feel have done something to personify one of the five Spiritual Values of Humility, Simplicity, Compassion, Trust, and Zeal. The idea is to recognize members of our community who go More Beyond and exemplify our motto Plus Ultra. Malden Catholic is proud to recognize the following people for going More Beyond.

Jack Hickey ’28 for Compassion

Jack consistently includes our international students when we do group work or break into pair sharing. Recently, my students were working on a project and while I was helping another student Jack noticed an international student struggling to begin. I heard him go over and explain the assignment to the student. Jack has done all this without prompting or mention to me, but it does not go unnoticed. His thoughtfulness both in conversation with other students, and in his reflections in class and assignments consistently impresses me. That is why he is a worthy recipient of the Compassion Plus Ultra award!

Zwae Pyae ’27 for Simplicity

Through his consistent curiosity and diligent work ethic, Zwae shows us what it means to live with simplicity. Ever grounded, his way of being shows how “through the common, ordinary, unspectacular flow of everyday life, we will experience liberation and freedom." In class, his questioning helps to bring concepts down to earth. In engaging others, he meets them where they are, without complication or flourish, and is quick to offer assurance and assistance. In teaching his peers, he is direct and clarifying. It is because of people like Zwae that we are able to navigate the storm; where complication and confusion abound, his presence is a grounding refuge.

Nora Tinstman ’29 for Zeal

Nora is a member of the drama club where her hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. Nora does a great job balancing athletics and arts. She showed up for the cross-country team as a strong athlete and to rehearsals with a consistent focus, eagerness to learn, and a positive attitude. She wastes no time in rehearsals and show-runs working on studying choreography and scene work even when she's offstage. Her self-discipline and enthusiasm for all that she does at the school is why she is the month’s Plus Ultra Award winner for Zeal.

Keira Murray ’28 for Humility

Keira is a great example of the Xaverian value of humility. Keira has already proven herself to be a dedicated student and has consistently achieved in his classes and with the cross-country team. However, in keeping with her humility, she continues to work hard and does so without the goal of recognition.

Stella Scarpello ’30 for Leadership

Stella was nominated for the leadership award for her continued demonstration of leadership among her peers, bringing positivity wherever she goes. Stella is a force for good on the third floor, including others in social situations, encouraging others to do their best, and pushing herself. She is an excellent model of what it means to live out the Plus Ultra motto.

Ms. Katherine DeSimone for Trust

Ms. DeSimone has established great trust with her students and athletes. She is never without students around her as she instructs them in Algebra. She is a mathematical force! Students are receptive to her enormous efforts. A role model of great instruction at MC!
