Student-Athlete of the Week- FALL 2014

Sept. 4th – 11th      Ben Scarpa,  JV Football, Student-Athlete of Week.  Ben played tremendous against a strong Quincy football team. Leading the offense with 150+ yards on ground. Ben added two touchdowns, and a two point conversion for a total of 14 points for the Malden Catholic offense. Being a two way player, the Malden Catholic football team relied on Ben to play on both sides of the ball. Not only leading the attack on offense he added 7 tackles on the defensive side of the ball as well. Congratulations to Ben and the JV football team.


Sept. 18th – 26th    CONGRATULATIONS to Kyle Mullaney last week’s Student Athlete of the Week.  As the starting goalkeeper for the Varsity Soccer team, Kyle has had 2 clean sheets and has averaged 1.2 goals per games.  Kyle’s hard work pushes his teammates to constantly improve and is a model student-athlete.  Kyle’s determination and leadership have made Kyle an integral part of the MC soccer program.


 Sept. 26th -Oct. 2nd Congratulations to Junior Michael Cahill this week’s Student Athlete of the week- Michael has been the cross country team's #1 runner at each of the first three races of the 2014 season, including setting a personal best of 18:32 for the 5K (average pace of 5:57/mile), placing 2nd against Catholic Memorial last week at Franklin Park. This time was the fastest MC time at Franklin Park since the 2011 season. Michael followed that performance up with a strong 18:52 in the heat on Saturday at the Ocean State Invitational to lead the way again for the Lancers

Oct. 2nd- Oct. 9th Congratulations to Sophomore Michael Shea. Mike shot 1 over par 37 at Charles River CC in Newton at our Varsity Golf match vs Catholic Memorial. He holds our lowest season average of 38, to lead the Lancers.


Oct. 10th –Oct. 17th Congratulations to Sophomore Dante Egizi this week’s Student Athlete of the Week.  From defense Dante has a team leading 3 goals. His work ethic and positive on the pitch is an inspiration to all of his teammates. Johnny has lowered his time by over 3 minutes (!) since he joined the team this fall, and his enthusiasm for the sport is great to see. He ran his best time at Franklin Park by almost a minute at the league meet. At the twilight meet, he beat his previous best time by 90 seconds.


Oct. 18th – Oct. 25th  Congratulations to Sophomore John Camozzi , Student Athlete of the Week.  Johnny has lowered his time by over 3 minutes since he joined the team this fall, and his enthusiasm for the sport is great to see. He ran his best time at Franklin Park by almost a minute at the league meet. At the twilight meet, he beat his previous best time by 90 seconds.

Student-Athlete of the Week-Winter 2013-14

Week of Dec 8th-15th

Eoghan Myer is a four year member of wrestling team. Eoghan wrestled claimed the gold medal in the Pembroke invitational going 3-0 on the day. Eoghan is one of the top wrestlers in State for his weight class.


Week of Dec 16th-23rd

Tyler Sifferlen 2014, a senior captain and four year member of the varsity hockey team. Tyler is committed to Umass/Lowell. That week Tyler had 5 goals and 5 assists to help the Lancers to improve 3-0.


Week of Dec. 29th- Jan.4th

Juao-Guilheme Rosa is four year member of the swim team. He is a part of the 400 relay and 200 medley relay team that has qualified for the State Sectionals. His dedication and commitment has helped the Lancers start with a 6-2 record.


January 5th – 11th The Indoor Track 4X400 team qualified for the State Sectional and Coaches Elite Meet with a season best time of 3:37.39! Congrats to Andrew Kelly, Nicholas Rodriquez, Peter Ventola, and Matt Curran!


January 12th – January 18th

Jack Albanese ’17 of the Freshmen Basketball team has really stood out as a hard worker and strong, albeit quiet, leader on the team.  He has been a defensive stopper and stronger contributor offensively. 

January 19th-January 25th

John McLean ’16 of the Varsity Hockey team had 1 goal and 7 assists in the last three games helping the team beat Central Catholic and Winchester. Also, he has been consisted defender on the blue line helping the teams remind as one of the top ranked teams in New England.


January 26th –Feb. 1st

Student- Athletes of the Week is the 200 and 400 Swim Relay Team. Team members Noel Chabonnier, Christopher Flemming, Tim Guinee, Juao-Guilherme Rosa, Conor Schwarze, Tim Smith and Sean Xiao.   


Feb. 2nd –Feb. 9th

Joe has averaged 11 points per game including (8) 3 point shots. Joe also had a MC career high 16 points in the 65-55 victory over St. Mary’s of Lynn. Joe was able to accomplish this while playing with 6 stitches just below his eye. He suffered the injury in the St. Mary’s Lynn game. After being patched up, Joe showed great courage and toughness by re-entering the game.


 Feb. 16th - Feb. 22nd

Congratulations to Jr. Bryan Smith of the Varsity Wrestling team! Bryan was Student-Athlete of the week, February vacation week, Feb. 16th- 22nd .  Bryan entered the sectional tournament with a 15-15 record.  Bryan upset the #3 seed in the quarterfinals with a first period pin, earning his way to the semi-finals where he lost a tight match against the #1 seed/eventual champ.  Bryan battled back through the consolation brackets beating another higher seeded wrestler from Milton with a great 11-10 victory punching his ticket to states.  Bryan finished the day in 4th place.
