Student-Athlete of the Week: Winter Season 2015-16

 

Congratulations to Ian Fogarty, Student Athlete of the Week for the week of December 14th - December 21st!  On Saturday, Ian came in 1st against SJP with a throw of 43’ 2.25”, more than 3 feet better than his previous personal best. This qualified him for the Div.3 State Championship and places him 3rd in the conference currently. 

 

Congratulations to Junior Tommy Albert, Student Athlete of the Week December 21st - 28th. Tommy is a member of the Varsity Hockey team, he had goals in both the Hingham and Austin Prep games of the Christie Serino Christmas Classic assisting the team in winning the Championship Game vs Austin Prep. Tom was named All Tournament MVP.
Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week Dec. 28th-Jan.4th sophomore Patrick Kilburn, Varsity Wrestling.  Pat went 2-0 on the week with victories over Saugus and Greater Lawrence. Both times the team needed Pat to step up and he responded with his 2 best matches of the season.

 

 Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week January 4th - 11th  Sophomore Jack O’Brien.  Jack is a member of the JV Basketball team. Jack's tremendous effort, hustle and toughness along with double digit scoring led JV basketball to two league wins over Xaverian and St. Johns Prep.


 

 Congratulations Student Athletes of the Week January 8th -January 15th, the Varsity Swim 200 Free Style Relay Team: Junior Fred DeNisco, Junior Alex Phan, Junior Chris Cafferty, Senior Sean Xaio placed first in all their events, qualifying the team for sectionals against East Boston on January 14th.

 

 Congratulations to Student Athletes of the Week of January 15th – January  21st.   Indoor Track 4 x 400 Meter Relay Team: Junior Cam Albert, Senior Mike Cahill, Junior Dante Egizi, Senior Colin Harvey posted a 5th place finish at the Div. 3 State Relay Championship meet, lowering their State Qualifying time. Two days later, the same team beat Division 1 St. John’s Shrewsbury at the team’s dual meet, once again lowering their season best time to 3:40.54.

 Week of January 22 - January 30th

Freshmen Cameron McGovern member of the Freshmen Blue Team scored 35 points including  nine 3-pointers in a heart-breaking loss to Xaverian 61-58. 

 Week of  January 30th - February 8th

Junior Sean Wrenn, a member of the varsity hockey team scored the game tying goal with :08 seconds left against BC High.  With the tie the Lancers went undefeated in league play and became Co-Catholic Conference Champions.

 Week of February 11th - February 17th and Week of February 18th - February 23rd

Senior Ian Dolaher member of varsity track team on Thursday, February 11th, won the Division 3 State Championship in high jump. He was the lone jumper to clear 6’2”, matching his personal best. This past Saturday he finished tied for second with a new personal best and school record-matching jump of 6’4” at the MIAA All State Championship. This gave Malden Catholic the best overall finish of any Catholic Conference School at the meet. Also, Ian qualified for the New England Championship this Sunday, and the New Balance Indoor National Championship on March 11th.

Week of February  26th -  March 4th 2016 
Congratulations to Student Athlete of the week Senior Basketball Captain Cam Zahner. In our 64-52 first round State Tournament win against Boston Latin Academy Cam scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a tremendous all around effort. Our team would not be where it is, without the play and leadership of our Senior Captain.

Student-Athlete of the Week: Fall Season 2015

Congratulations to freshman Matthew Soucy, Student Athlete of the Week September 4th – September 11th.  Matt scored two goals in the Central Catholic game including the game winner! Matt's goals led the Lancers to their first victory of the season! 

 

 Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week September 18th- 25th Sophomore Brian Cannata. Brian is a member of the Varsity Golf team. Brian shot 2 under with a 33 verse Winthrop on Tuesday September 22nd  at the Winthrop Country Club.  It was a great match for Brian and a nice win for the team!

 

Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week, September 25th - October 2nd, Senior Reise Turransky, Varsity Football. Reise had over 100 multi-purpose yards in the win over Malden on September 25. He put MC on the board with a 76 yard touchdown reception from QB Colin Sullivan. Reise’s 11 yard TD reception with 9 seconds left to play in regulation gave MC the win over cross town rival Malden High School.

Congratulations to Freshman Jonah Carlson, Student Athlete of the Week October 2nd- October 9th. Jonah is a member of the Cross-Country, he placed 2nd overall in the Varsity 5k race againt Catholic Memorial with a time of 18:57, the fastest Malden Catholic time of the day and second fastest time for any athlete this season, it is the fastest 5k time for a Malden Catholic freshman since 2005. Jonah has won two of his dual meet races in the freshman section this year against BC High and St. John's Prep, and has the top 3k time in the league so far this season. He also placed 15th overall at the Ocean State Invite earning a medal. Congrats Jonah! 

 Congratulations to Senior Devin Kelly, Student Athlete of the Week October 9th - October 16th. Devin has been and continues to be the varsity soccer teams most potent offensive threat this season. With 16 goals and 5 assists, Devin is MC’s largest single season point holder in the past 4 years, and is currently the Catholic Conference’s leading scorer. He has been an integral part of the team this season and leads by example as a senior in ways that make his coaches proud and garners respect from his teammates. Congrats Devin!

Congratulations to Senior Tim Donnelly Student Athlete of the Week of October 16th - October 23rd. Tim is Captain of the Varsity Golf team and is being recognized for for his stellar post season play. Shooting an 80 in the MIAA Preliminary's and an 81 in the 2015 Div II - Golf Final. Congrats Tim!

Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week October 30th - November 6th Football’s junior captain Kellen Field. Kellen had 23 carries for 173 yards and four touchdowns in last Friday night’s game vs. Acton Boxborough.


Congratulations to Student Athletes of the Week November 6th - 13th  Varsity football’s offensive line; Kyle Chute, Jeff Collignon, Mike Scarpa, Tyler Webb, and Ian Fogarty. The team ran for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns. On the season the ground attack has averaged 160 yards per game. Congratulations boys!

Student-Athlete of the Week: Spring Season 2016

Congratulations to Student Athlete of the Week Lacrosse Senior Captain Joe Cameron of Stoneham. Joe led the Varsity Lacrosse team to a season opening 18-5 win against Dracut on Saturday, April 2nd.
Joe won 71% of the face-offs allowing MC to control the game from start to finish. He also accounted for multiple ground balls and an assist. Joe will be playing college lacrosse at Springfield next fall.
