Throughout the academic year the Campus Ministry team provides a monthly opportunity for the Malden Catholic Community to reach out to others in need. Students are encouraged to take leadership roles by joining the Campus Ministry Team in developing and coordinating school-wide service projects. Service projects sponsored by Campus Ministry include:
The Children’s Closet New Clothing Collection for Needy Babies and Children-Hundreds of baby items are collected, packed and delivered to the agency each September
November we pray for all deceased relatives and friends of Malden Catholic-The community is invited to write the names of loved ones in the Book of Remembrance throughout the month, members of the alumni and greater community are invited to mail in cards with the names of their loved ones. A Memorial Mass is celebrated on a Saturday evening in mid-November for the beloved deceased and all are invited to attend.
Lancers for Lost and Forgotten- A drive for toiletries and other items are collected for the homeless, students gather together to organize and bag these items and deliver them to the homeless. Prayer services and rosaries are dedicated to those who have no one to pray for them.
New White Socks and Used Clothing Drive for Homeless Veterans (October-November 11)-Used and new clothing is donated, sorted, folded and packed and then delivered to the homeless who have served our country.
Lancer Toy Drive-During Advent the Malden Catholic community focuses its attention on the goal of collecting toys for underprivileged children in our area. Hundreds and hundreds of toys are gathered during this time and delivered to Malden Office for Children and Families, Toys For Tots and the Children’s Closet.
Buy-A-Bed and New Blanket Drive January-February- Each Year, Mission of Deeds in Reading calls upon MC to assist in their program. Buy-A-Bed Program allows for $90.00 to buy a child’s bed. Students bring in one dollar and a paper bed slip is taped on the wall with name of the person donating. This year ten beds were made possible through the efforts of our students. In addition, the community is asked to donate new blankets for the drive, two to three hundred blankets are usually collected.
March Madness Lenten Food Drive for Poor( February-March)-Students work to collect canned food donations from the community for MY BROTHERS’ Table,a local Food Pantry in Lynn. Homeroom collect the food and at the end of each week a tally is taken and placed on the bracket board, (similar to March Madness basketball brackets). The top homeroom and the overall homeroom receive an ice cream sundae social hosted by campus ministry in our center.
Easter Basket Drive- Money and candy is collected to make and deliver Easter Baskets to needy children in the Holiday Helpers Program sponsored by St. Patrick Parish and the Malden Office for Children and Families.
Red Cross Blood Drive-each year Malden Catholic hosts a Blood Drive in the Brother Gilbert Center. Many Students and faculty members contribute to the drive by donating blood and/or helping throughout the drive.
Tag Days- held throughout the school year to benefit many agencies. Just to name a few: Housing Families, Catholic Charities, The Retired Xaverian Brothers, Mission of Deeds, Lost Boys of Sudan, Cancer Awareness, Lymphoma and Leukemia, Mass General Hospital, LHON.
Cookie Wednesday- Lancers in Action make and bake cookies in the school kitchen on Tuesday after school. On Wednesday the cookies are sold at all lunches and the money donated to a cause agreed upon by the Lancers in Action.
Light the Night Walk-Members of the football and hockey teams publicize, recruit walkers, set-up and clean up the event which is held in Wakefield each October.
Greater Boston Food Bank-Campus Ministry arranges for four service trip each year to the Greater Boston Food Bank. 40 students and faculty travel by bus to the site for a morning of service.
